THE MULLIGAN CONCEPT (MC)
The MC of mobilizations with movement (MWM) was developed by Brian R. Mulligan, a prominent figure in manual therapy from Wellington, New Zealand. Mulligan s unique clinical experience and insight led to the discovery of MWM that he generously shared with thousands of professionals during his career. In 1995 Mulligan established the Mulligan Concept Teachers Association(MCTA) to extend his educational reach globally through selected experienced manual therapists. These are recognized as MCTA members, accredited to teach the MC.
With numerous accolades acknowledging his significant contributions to physiotherapy and manual therapy, Mulligan’s work has had a lasting impact on the field. In many countries, Mulligan courses are the most attractive to newly graduated and experienced physiotherapists.
Likewise, it is now a fact that any professional clinic will favor knowledge of the mulligan concept when considering new employments.
In Denmark and the UAE, knowledge of the ( MC) is considered mandatory in any job application to clinics.
In summary, the Mulligan Concept represents a significant progression in manual therapy, highlighting the crucial role of active patient engagement and the integration of movement with mobilization techniques. As the Mulligan Concept continues to evolve, it remains a leading method in contemporary physiotherapy, empowering countless individuals to achieve improved mobility and reduced pain.
Today, the MCTA comprises approximately 50 accredited teachers across more than 22 countries.
